RockBlocks is made by Ryan Fox LLC in Portland, Oregon, and it's used by kids, families and classrooms. So the short version is: collect as little as possible, keep it anonymous where we can, and never sell it or show ads.
Your progress, settings and drafts are kept in your own browser (local storage), not on our servers. Clearing your browser data clears them.
To understand how the site is used, we record anonymous visits: which pages are viewed, for how long, which buttons are clicked (by their label, never anything you type), the country you're in, and a rough device and browser type. These are tied to a random ID your browser makes up, not to you. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies.
When several people have the same beat board open, it can show a rough location like a city or region (“someone in Portland is here”). That comes from the network, never GPS, and nothing more precise is kept.
An account is optional and lets you save progress across devices. You can sign up with an email and password or with Google. We keep your name, email address and the things you choose to save (songs, lesson progress, kits, your Drummit profile). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email; we don't get anything else from your Google account.
Children under 13 should have a parent or teacher create and manage the account. Kids can use RockBlocks fully without one.
Some things are public by design: beat boards and their links, songs you share or post, messages on a board's wall, Drummit posts, comments and reactions, and initials on game high-score lists. Please don't put personal information in them. Drummit's rules don't allow names, emails, phone numbers or social handles, and we remove posts that break them.
If you record a sound with your microphone, it's only kept if you save it with a beat, and it goes wherever that beat goes (including a public board).
The Complain button, the thumbs up / thumbs down question and the contact form send us your message along with the page you were on. The contact form also asks for your name and email, which we use only to reply. To stop spam and flooding, these forms (and board walls, high scores and share links) keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your internet address alongside what you sent. It can't be turned back into the address, and we never store the address itself.
We use a few service providers, only to run RockBlocks, and they may not use your data for anything else:
The only cookies we set keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. Big changes that affect how your information is used will be called out on the site.
