✨ Magic Blocks

One dial, one whole song. Magic Blocks writes four beats into A, B, C and D, then stacks them into a real song form — intro, verses, choruses, a bridge — with drums first, then a bass line, then a melody. Choose how hinged or unhinged you want it.

Steady: modes and pentatonic scales sneak in, and any genre kit is fair game.

About Magic Blocks

Magic Blocks is a free one-click song generator built into RockBlocks. One dial, from 1 (Hinged) to 10 (Unhinged), makes a whole song: four drum beats written into slots A, B, C and D, arranged with Stacks into a real song form — verse–chorus pop, verse–chorus–solo rock, an AABA standard, a dance build and drop, or hip-hop hooks and verses. It builds the song the way a band does: drums first, then a bass line that follows the kick and snare, then melody and chords on top, and the arrangement enters the same way — the intro is drums alone, the bass joins next, then the melody. Each section's bars are linked so one bass line and one melody run across the whole section, and repeated choruses sing the same tune. The dial decides how strange it gets: hinged songs stay in 4/4 with genre-true grooves, one drum kit and a major or minor key; unhinged songs switch to odd time signatures like 5/4 and 7/4, exotic and quarter-tone scales, more and more key changes, a second (sometimes novelty) kit and a freak-out section — while the drums always stay a part one drummer could play, and the song keeps a real song's shape. Save the result into your A–D beats on your device, give it its own shareable URL, or sign in to keep it in your private library, then edit every beat, bass line and melody in the RockBlocks editor and Stacks. No account, download or musical experience needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is Magic Blocks?
A free song generator in RockBlocks. Move one dial from Hinged to Unhinged, press Make a song, and it writes four drum beats into A, B, C and D and arranges them into a full song with a bass line, chords and a melody — usually one and a half to three minutes long.
What does the Hinged–Unhinged dial change?
Everything that makes a song safe or strange: the scales (major and minor, then modes and pentatonics, blues, exotic and quarter-tone scales), the time signatures (4/4, a 3/4 waltz, an odd-meter bridge, then every beat in its own meter), key changes (a lift into the last chorus, a bridge in a new key, a key for every section, choruses that climb), the drum kits (one kit, then a second kit for the chorus, sometimes a novelty one), the feel of the drums (ghost notes, accents, tom hits), how busy the bass is and how much the chords clash. The drums always stay playable by one drummer.
What song structures does it use?
Popular, proven forms: verse–chorus–bridge pop, verse–chorus–solo rock, the AABA 32-bar form of classic standards, a dance build and drop, and hip-hop hooks and verses. Unhinged songs stretch sections to odd lengths and add a freak-out, but keep the form recognizable.
Why does the song start with only drums?
That's how bands build songs, and how RockBlocks builds every part: the bass line is written to follow the drums' kick and snare, and the melody and chords are written on top of the bass. So the intro is drums alone, the bass comes in next, and the melody arrives after that.
Can I edit the song it makes?
Yes. Every part is a normal RockBlocks beat in A–D and a normal Stacks song, so you can change any drum block, re-roll or retune the bass, change the melody's dissonance, swap kits, or rearrange the sections.
How do I save it?
Three ways: replace the A–D beats saved on your device (no account), create your own shareable rockblocks.app/YourName page for it, or sign in or sign up to save it to your private library. You can also download it as an MP3 or MIDI from Stacks.
