Indian classical rhythm is organized in tāla — cycles of beats with their own structure, spoken as bols (syllables like dha, dhin and na) and played on the tabla. Kehrwa (8 beats) and dadra (6 beats) are the light-classical and folk tālas heard in film songs; rupak is a 7-beat cycle (3+2+2) that starts on an unaccented beat.
Bhangra is the harvest dance music of Punjab, driven by the dhol's swung chaal rhythm. RockBlocks has no tabla, so these are played on the Middle Eastern kit's hand drums as a stand-in.
Want to play along, or build a song from these? Open them in Drum Loops → Each beat becomes a loop you can edit, with fills, a count-in and a song.
