The four chords in every key
Most pop, rock and worship songs live on the I, IV, V and vi chords of their key. Find your song's key to read its four chords across the row, then look at any other row for the same progression in that key.

How to use it
- Paste your chord chart. Paste a song with chords above the lyrics, inline [chords], or just a line of chords. It stays on your device.
- Move it. Press + or − to move by half steps, or pick the new key directly. The transposed chart updates as you go, with chords still over the right words.
- Add a capo (optional). Pick a capo fret and the chart shows the chord shapes to play with the capo on, still sounding in the key you chose. The capo finder ranks every capo position by how many easy open shapes it gives.
- Copy it. Press Copy and paste the new chart wherever you keep your songs.
Need to see a chord's notes? Look it up in the scale and chord finder. Rehearsing the song? Play along with drum loops in its style.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this chord transposer free with no ads?
- Yes. It's free, with no ads and no sign-up. Your chart is never uploaded; it's transposed in your browser and remembered only on your device.
- How do I transpose chords to a different key?
- Count the half steps between the old key and the new one and move every chord by that many: G to A is up 2, so G becomes A, D becomes E, Em becomes F#m and C becomes D. Paste the chart, press + twice (or pick A as the new key) and the transposer does every chord for you, including slash chords like D/F#.
- How does a capo change the chords?
- A capo raises everything by one half step per fret, so you play easier shapes that sound higher. To play a song in A with a capo on fret 2, you play G shapes: the shapes are the real chords moved down by the capo fret. Pick a capo and the transposer shows the shapes to play.
- Where should I put the capo?
- Wherever the chords become open shapes you know, like C, G, D, A, E, Am, Em and Dm. The capo finder lists every capo from none to fret 7 with the shapes you'd play and how many are easy; for a song in Bb, a capo on fret 3 turns Bb F Gm Eb into G D Em C.
- Will it change my lyrics?
- No. A line is treated as chords only when every word on it reads as a chord, a bar line or a label like "Chorus:", so lyrics such as "A long time ago" are left as written. Inline chords in square brackets are transposed wherever they appear.
- Sharps or flats?
- By default the transposer spells chords the way the new key is written: flats in F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db and Gb (and D, G, C, F minor), sharps elsewhere. You can force all sharps or all flats.
- What chord types does it understand?
- Major, minor, 7ths, maj7, m7, sus2, sus4, add9, 6, 9, 11, 13, dim, aug, m7b5, power chords (5), altered chords with b and #, and slash chords like G/B — anything written as a root note followed by a chord quality.
