Drag rhythmic values into up to 4 beat blocks per line to build a drum groove, or click a tile then click a block to place it — handy on a trackpad.
What this lesson teaches: Opening and closing the hi-hat for a splashy good time.
This is lesson 7 of 100 in RockBlocks Drum School, a free, stepwise course where each lesson adds one new idea to the one before it. The previous lesson, “Four on the floor with 8th notes,” covered four on the floor beats. Try them slow then increase the speed. Next is Lesson 8, “Your First Fill: The Tom Run.”
Mix these open hi-hats in to give your drum beats some variability in a song. Try just working with the hi-hat first - opening and closing it. You don't have to move your whole leg. Just move your foot up a bit to open the hi-hat. Then put it down to close it.
Practicing on a real kit or a pad? Start slower and work up to the lesson's 92 BPM with the free metronome's speed trainer.
